The Fine Print
Privacy Policy
A short account of what this site does with your data, which is very little.

Who we are
The Syndicate of the Crumbled Page is an informal book club, not a company. This site is a personal, non-commercial project run by its members. We sell nothing, run no advertising, and have no accounts to sign up for.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you personally, and nothing you have to type. There are no sign-ups, no comment boxes, no newsletter, and no contact forms on this site.
If you consent to analytics, Google Analytics records anonymous statistics about your visit. That is the only tracking here.
Analytics, and your choice
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Nothing analytics-related loads until you answer.
If you decline, no Google Analytics script is ever downloaded and no analytics cookies are set. If you accept, we load Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled, which records things like which pages are read, roughly which country you are in, and what kind of device you use.
Your answer is stored in your own browser and remembered on future visits. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Cookies and local storage
In detail, this is everything the site stores in your browser:
- cpsy-consent — whether you accepted or declined analytics. Set by us, stored in local storage, never sent to a server.
- cpsy-theme — your light or dark mode preference. Set by us, stored in local storage, never sent to a server.
- _ga and _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies that count visits and distinguish one browser from another. These appear only if you accept, and expire after two years.
Who else sees your data
If you accept analytics, Google receives the data described above and processes it as our data processor. Google may transfer and store it outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, under its own safeguards.
Nobody else. We do not sell, share, or hand your data to anyone, because we do not have anything worth handing over.
What is served from our own servers
This site loads no third-party fonts, scripts, or embeds. The typefaces are served from our own domain specifically so that no request reaches an outside company before you have consented to anything.
Search runs entirely inside your browser. Whatever you type into the search box is never transmitted anywhere.
Links to Goodreads and other outside sites are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site’s own privacy policy applies, not ours.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months and then deleted automatically. The preferences stored in your browser stay until you clear your browsing data.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data about them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Given how little we collect, we do not expect it to change often.
Under the GDPR you have the right to ask us to do the following with any personal data we hold about you:
- See what we hold
- Correct anything wrong
- Delete it
- Restrict or object to how it is used
- Receive a copy in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, without giving a reason
- Complain to your national data protection authority
Getting in touch
